Phil Bob Borman is an artist who enjoys creating in both the three dimensional and two dimensional realms. He is an accomplished sculptor who has been a professional artist since 1986. As a landscape painter he is at home painting both outdoors and in the studio.
A life long fan of Will Rogers, Phil Bob mused that the cowboy humorist brought him to an interesting artistic insight. Phil Bob states,
“Art is a visual language and, like storytelling, the content of the story is simply where you start. It is how you tell the story that brings the smile, creates the mood, and evokes the emotions. As an artist, using the tools of composition, form, color and light, I abstract them together so as not to render but to go beyond the subject. As I look at a landscape, however big or small, I want to communicate the spectacular vistas I see, even in the most mundane in creation. My goal is to tell the story of what God has created through fine art one piece at a time.”
A native of Texas, Phil Bob was raised in North Central Texas. At age 7 he collected his first piece of art. At 14 he came home from work one night and drew till daylight. “At that time I knew I was going to be an artist”. After high school, Phil Bob moved to West Texas and attended Sul Ross State University at Alpine where he earned a Bachelor’s of Fine Art Degree with a minor in Animal Science. He made his living cowboying on ranches in West Texas and New Mexico for several years.
In 1985 Phil Bob moved to Fort Davis and started his art career as a sculptor. In 1993 the Lord called Phil Bob to full time ministry. He kept his hand in art, however, it was not until 2003 that Phil Bob knew it was time to pick up his brushes and start painting again. Now he speaks, plays music and preaches all over the Southwest. Presently, he is painting full time, living in Fredericksburg, Texas with his three boys, Conner, Caleb and Timothy.
